Survivors remember as if it happened yesterday – the sounds, the confusion, the fear as protests and unrest escalated to a deadly level on campus. The scenario may sound similar to the events of May 4, 1970, at ¾ÅÓÎÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø, but this incident happened two years prior.

On May 4, 1970, ¾ÅÓÎÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø was placed in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard on campus ended in tragedy. Each year, as part of the May 4 Commemoration, ¾ÅÓÎÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø’s May 4 Visitors Center presents events and opportunities to inquire, learn and reflect.

¾ÅÓÎÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø's holiday closure for 2024 will begin Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, at 10:30 p.m. All offices will re-open on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025. Employees not eligible for the paid leave include student employees, classified temporary staff, temporary agency staff, short-term unclassified appointments, unclassified intermittent appointments and employees in a lay-off status. More information on the holiday schedule, including how employees should report time during that period, will be available later this month.
