On October 12, 1985, a 6-foot egg (constructed by ¾ÅÓÎÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø technology students) was rolled onto the 50-yard line during halftime of ¾ÅÓÎÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø's Homecoming game at Dix Stadium.
Earlier in the day, the egg rode in a nest down Main Street in the Homecoming parade, on a float with ¾ÅÓÎÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø cheerleaders.
In a cloud of smoke at midfield, the egg hatched and Flash the Golden Eagle (eaglet) emerged.
"Baby Flash" is shown here, shortly after hatching, with an actual golden eagle, also named Flash, who appeared at select ¾ÅÓÎÓéÀÖ¹ÙÍø athletic events until the mid-90s. To read about the progression of mascots, visit /magazine/news/forerunners-flash.
