Alumnus Shares ‘Layered Leadership’ Insights With Students and Administrators Through Recent Behind-the-Book Interview

�������ֹ��� alumnus Antonio Gates has begun his journey to football immortality, recently visiting the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, to meet with officials and begin preparations for his enshrinement. The former basketball standout at �������ֹ��� will become just the second Golden Flash to earn a gold jacket, joining linebacker Jack Lambert who was enshrined in 1990.

Sophia Matar, B.S. ’24 was inspired by robotics at a young age and knew she wanted to pursue a career in nformation technology (IT), majoring in computer science. A dramatic, 15-foot-tall bronze sculpture stands on the Lefton Esplanade near the intersection of East Main Street and Haymaker Parkway. It’s a gift from a �������ֹ��� alumnus and outstanding supporter of the university. 

While some first-year students arrive at �������ֹ��� undecided on their major and career choice, Renee Richard, ’76, had her path for the future mapped out.

John Elliot, a 1970 �������ֹ��� graduate, and his wife, Fonda, have created The Elliot Scholars program at �������ֹ��� with a $1 million donation. This new scholarship program will provide support to first-generation students of any major who require financial support to attend �������ֹ���.

“I want to bring issues to the forefront. Not just issues today, but from the time of enslavement to the present day, and talk about mental and physical health and wellness throughout the years and how we’ve ended up where we are today.”

�������ֹ��� held its first Alumni Day of Service in 2009. Since then, it has blossomed into a weeklong initiative supporting our blue and gold communities around the world.
